Beau Dixon – 2004

Emerging Artist Award Winner 2004
“To understand the talent that is Beau Dixon is to see him as well as hear him. As a singer, he is bigger-than-life, aided by a tall frame and a soul-searing voice that reaches the far side of the room and threatens to blow out the doors on exiting. As an actor, he has honed his craft well, delivering, through his oratory, expression and actions, in most convincing fashion.””
- Paul Rellinger, Peterborough This Week
Beau Dixon is a musician / singer / songwriter / producer / actor / director and playwright raised in Canada and currently based in Peterborough, Ontario. Beau developed his passion for performance at an early age, singing and playing piano at church services and in school plays. This passion is evident in his body of work and sustains his commitment to his art.
Beau is a storyteller who crafts his songs based on personal experience. The melodies incorporate a familiar roots feel that encourages the listener to engage in these experiences and to explore the thread that links their life with that of this talented performer.
Stylistically Beau’s music has been called “soul flavoured urban folk” with such eclectic influences as Shuggie Otis, Stevie Wonder and Van Morrison. It is pop with an edge. Folk with a beat. Soul with flavour. Beau has shared the stage with a wide range of artists, from Raffi to Eric Burden, Prairie Oyster and Willie P. Bennett to The New Deal and Feist.
Beau’s second full-length CD, ”from here to east city”, was recorded in Ottawa at the legendary Little Bullhorn Studio with co-producer/ engineer Dave Draves (Kathleen Edwards, Jim Bryson, Julie Doiron and the Wooden Stars). A few tracks were recorded in a church somewhere in Peterborough, and some wonderful mixing was done by Joa Carvallho at Umbrella Sound in Toronto. ”from here to east city” is full of gutsy soul, and raw rootsy rhythms. In the spring of 2003, Beau was on a successful European tour to support and promote his sophmore CD ”from here to east city”. This trip was also a chance to expand his artistic knowledge and help create new and exciting music. At present, Beau is splitting his time between acting, playwriting and other musical endeavours.
